Anybody have any cool winter trips coming up....either in the Gulf or somewhere else???
Ive been having nightmares of a warsaw that got the best of Francisco and I a couple years ago. This winter will give us revenge, along with some new experiences. We're planning on some winter freediving for hoos and tuna and really look forward to it.
The tuna bite we witnessed in october was exactly what tuna fishing is meant to be...In a scenario like that your biggest obstacle to the tuna are the makos. Hopefully you are presented with a fish sooner than later and hopefully its a good one. If I am presented with a large mako...i may fly out the water jesus style. chum filled water and a 500lb+ apex may just about do it. Who knows, u have to read the situation...its just that they are so predatory...i may not press it. hahaha whatever shark, bring it.
I believe wahoo may be a little easier, a little more relaxed situation. We could get lucky and there may be a pretty good number depending on location but again you never know. Either way they key is chum/chunks and should make for something memorable.
Nothing like a challenge and we are stoked about making it happen.
Here are some cool action shots of how its done: |

Now THAT looks like a kick in the head. Freaking awesome. What kinda gear do you need for that just a gun wetsuit mask and snorkel? I have seen and heard about using buoys before too. Lets do that at the gardens this year. _________________ F/V AMBUSH

No hunting at gardens unfortunately remember, but we can set up the same scenario else where....
Need a good knife, buoy and float line is essential.....it allows the spear to detach from the gun completly therefore giving you some more range and the guys above can use the float to follow you around. But yea, that's pretty much it....need the nice blue wetsuit from Mike at Hydrosports, good freediving fins, good mask, some weights to help get you down quicker and 3 flats of pogies. |

I heard a guy shot a monster wahoo in Louisiana right before the superbowl. I will try to get some pictures. Where did all the divers/hunters go? _________________ F/V AMBUSH

PM anglersurf on 2Cool (Keith Love). Nice guy. He has been after yellowfin freediving. Not sure if he got one. He did spear a Marlin. Freakin' sweet. Hardcore stuff.
