I am not really new here but, I don't post much. Well I am going to limit my posting to here because I am so tired of the whining and crying over there.
I have nothing against CC's and how far they want to go or what they want to do but, it seems like they have a serious chip on their shoulder over there about the SF boats and I get tired of reading about it.
That combined with the where is blue water, how rough is it, can I make it, where is "X" rig, are the kingfish biting, will my jon boat be ok at Baker, so and so cheated me on my Red Bait Fish hole etc has be just tired of that trash hole.
I hope more people defect!
Oh, I am Joakster over there, the name of our bay boat.
Look forward to seeing you guys at TIFT and the Legends!

Glad to have you and welcome aboard. But lets not hate on other boards. There are places for everyone to enjoy. You should have swung by the party at the Ambush house, it belongs it a friend of ours Ryan B. It was awesome. Minno-Soda was there, Six Chicks, Ambush, some of the inshore guys, sporadic pirates from different boats were showing up all night acompanied by a bunch of people we didnt know, it was a blast....We now station at the house across from the HBGC headquarters (AKA bloody mary house) and we are next door to the Margarita Garage where SunDoll parks. Thanks again for the place Ryan and Rusty. The future years are going to be great. _________________ F/V AMBUSH
DONT GET NERVOUS
I agree, that was why I didn't post my question about what the guys were doing at the Spars Saturday night over there.
While only one SF was did anything that I personally felt wasn't helping our effort, the 2 boats doing the things I mentioned in the other thread were both CC's. One of which later in the night behaved quite normally and he was live baiting/bump trolling Kingfish style. I personally live bait from a dead boat so my baits can get down better, but I can't say my way works better than his.
Maybe I just don't know enough about handling a big SF boat. It sounds like you might be an owner of a SF rig, so I'll ask you; if you were tuna fishing a Spar, would normally back (into the 2' wind blown chop), right though the area you just fished to fish it again?
One Last Thing...posting these questions on an open forum might just find there way to guys who were not there, but might do similar things without thinking, "HEY, maybe we should have gave those tuna a little more room when they came up" the next time they go. Provided of course that they didn't have some new secret way of catching tons of tuna!
The post over there are on the edge of stupid. Outboard Vs Sportfisher? Give me a break. I started fishing the GOM in a 17' Whaler and i've worked my way up to a 55vky. No lucky sperm club just hard work.

I sort of answered this in the other thread. It sounds to me like they were jigging.
If we were jigging and thats where the fish were then yes we would hold the boat like that.
Remember a SF is a WHOLE lot easier to handle in those conditions than most outboards. Outboards are tought to keep still, they are lighter and have a lot less torque and smaller props. Most SF's have big diesels, big wheels and can easily keep a boat in position with a lot less work.
Also remember the SF boats are a LOT heavier so 2' chop isn't even really felt. The downside is they are usually slower than the outboard boats. _________________ Ollie Dora

Lucky Sperm my Ass, its called blood, sweat, and leverage. Here is how I ended up with Ambush in a nutshell for those that care or wonder…
I fished with my dad on his boats (nothing over 25 feet) until I was 15 and he had back surgery, he had to stop for over 5 years. I could not stop fishing, in comes commerce. For a few years I fished inland learning the mouth of the river until I finally landed a job deck handing for Peace Marvel in Venice after pleading with him. I will never forget my ah-ha moment. I was sitting on the back of Marvels Glacier Bay smoking cigarettes and drinking the customers left over beer mad as a hornet. I only had one thing on my mind…..how the hell was I ever going to get one of those tanks. I was swarmed by bugs, covered in fish blood, with a wheelbarrow full of chicken dolphin to clean, and I had been fishing for God knows how many days straight, I am sure to them I looked like a total peasant. I had just asked one of the owners of the marina where a plug for an electric filet knife was. He was sitting in the cockpit of his boat with a highball glass in his hand and had some friends with him when this DICKHEAD interrupted “get back to work and let the big boys play”. Wow, I wanted to drown that man and honestly still do. That evening, on the back of that Glacier Bay, I swore to myself that I would have a Bertram before I was 30. Back then I referred to all big boats as Bertram’s. I started laying down my plan of attack. I had been doing everything from selling meat door to door, to selling fences, to cutting grass, to bartending, to decking. Money was tight when I was a kid and it got even tighter when I went to college but I always found a way to fish and I always found a way to make money and that still rings true today. People that say things like that have no drive or goals and would probably be surprised what they could pull off with a little oomph. Do I have a little chip on my shoulder, sure but who doesn’t. If there is an asshole on a sportfisher its probably not the owner; it is usually a guest that thinks he or she is rich for a day, and if you think the Sportfish crowd is rude go hang out at a boat ramp. Most big boat owners have worked their tails off to get where they are and respect the hell out of the guys that ask questions and show drive. It’s not hard for them to see the qualities it took for them to get where they are in you. If people would quit hating and actually ask real questions, they would find real answers and would probably even get an invite here and there. I know I did and I still do. There is always someone with a bigger faster boat and I am always asking questions.
PS. Thanks to all those that helped make Ambush a reality including Dave Tilley and especially Fran. Life truly is a fun string of events and you never know where you will end up…I do know I ended up with a Bertram 59 days before my 30th Birthday.

Very well said Daniel, I'm sure you have got some of teh comments I've had, even with mine being a much smaller boat, but just in general an offshore boat. It's all about persistance to me. I dont' want to say it's all about making the next dollar, but it's about waking up doing the right thing working hard to find a way to make the next dollar rather that be that day or a year from now. What you do today is where you will make your next dollar down the road. For me, both of my parents died by the time I was 25, my Dad died my Sr. year of high school. We didn't offshore fish as a kid. We had an 18' kenner that I would take offshore catching kingfish. Sometimes I wish I still had those moments when catching kingfish was true offshore fishing. But something that always kept me moving forward is Dad semi-retired when he was 47(more so got laid off with a package). He would always say I'll save a little more for that or wait a little bit. He had a massive heart attack at the young age of 47. He never had the chance to save or wait a little bit. That put a drive in my right there such as yours. It was always about how do I get to the next level. It hasn't stopped I still have it. Sportfishers aren't for me yet, but I'm sure in due time they will be. I'm just really in the last year getting into fishing the deepwater, now I've got a 2 year old girl and as she wants to go(she already does loves a boat) then I'm sure I'll transpire that way. It will be nothing but more hard work to get there. I can assure anyone I was the futherest thing from a lucky sperm. We didn't starve when we were kids had most things we needed or wanted, but by any means were not rich or even close. When dad died I was left 30K when I was 18. I still got every penny of it today and refuse to spend it. Everything I got I worked for and got there.

Just imagine if you had been smart enough to refer to all big boats as Vikings.

J/K I have a little Bertram and love her. If I am not mistaken that boat used to be the Bimini Babe in Rockport; she raises fish....Those guys will get their groove.. ST
Lucky Sperm my Ass, its called blood, sweat, and leverage.
What most don't understand is that a lot of the "lucky sperm club" guys were taught to be hard workers.
I could easily be classified in that arena as my family has done very well. However I also had a chip on my shoulder so I went out and did it on my own.
So instead of dividing the family business up into smaller pieces, I multiplied it!
If that is lucky, then I will take lucky. _________________ Ollie Dora

I consider myself a lucky sperm, Never had any money but when the day came I whuped ass on bout 150,000 of my brutheren sperms and busted that egg!!!!!!Heck half o'dem dumb asses was running out the door but i kept swimming, Telling myself all the way that that egg is mine!!
Nutn but pure determination.
BTW, This has nothing to do with the fact that some other sites have been taken over by pure idiots.
attention idiots, please wear a condom. we have plenty of you walking this earth and so far there is no solution to fix stupid......[/u]
We are all in the lucky sperm club since most end up in a napkin, oral cavity, or a vaginal cavity with no date available - just half pieces of DNA with no where to go. So, certainly all that walk the earth can be sure that they are in the lucky sperm club. This might be a good clothing line with a logo of a sperm on steroids crashing into a sexy egg. For us that aren't millionaires this maybe the ticket or maybe not
