Click on episodes 10: world records and also episode 11: Healey's tuna

http://www.insea.tv/INSEA.tv/Home.html

Episode 10 shows some nearshore FL spearfishing with the pending world record freedive mangrove at 15.6lbs...in addition there is some of the most ridiculous diving footage Ive ever seen!!!!! Episodes 10 - 11 has some crazy yellowfin spear action Offshore lower Baja, Guadalupe Islands bluewater freediving. Water only the bravest would dive...The pending world record yellowtail was shot on this trip. Mega props out to Brandon Wahlers who accomplished this amazing feat. World class skills catching world class fish!

Here is the report firsthand:

Hey guys thanks for all the good wishes!!
I was down there for just under 3 weeks, filming a documentary about white shark cognition with National Geographic, and all I can say it was an AWESOME experience.

There were 2 other freedivers on the trip with me, Ryan McInnis was there filming, and Mark Healey was also diving and spearfishing with me. Ryan captured some AMAZING footage of us spearfishing as well as doing a lot of cool diving with the white sharks.

Diving with the sharks required us to be really cautious and on top of our game, constantly scanning and making sure one wasnt sneaking up on us from behind or charging from below. There were a number of times that we ended up less than 2 feet from the mouth of the sharks, but having good buddies looking out kept any accidents from happening. It seemed like the smaller sharks with scars all over them were the ones who always wanted a taste, and were more sketchy to be in the water with, whereas the bigger ones were more cautious and mellow. We got to do numerous dorsal fin rides on several sharks, which was really good footage for the documentary.

We learned that the sharks were very curious and cautious, and not just hungry.

The details of what we learned will be explained when the show comes out at some point, but I cant wait to go back and do some more diving there.

The yellow weighed in on the Fathomiers certified scale at 87.6 lbs, with a length of 64.5" and a girth of 32.5". The bigger yellows were consistently deeper near the bottom, and we speared some at over 100ft. It wasnt easy diving, with the possiblity of white sharks in the area, but it paid off. Mark Healey shot a nice 130 lb Yellow Fin Tuna that ran into the shallows 300yds away. He swam all the way into the shallows as we watched out for sharks and put a second shot into the fish, all filmed by Ryan in amazing HD quality. Ryan definitely got some amazing underwater footage and stills that will be seen sometime in the future. We are planning on writing an aritcle for HSD, so look out for some really nice pics sometime soon!!

Once again, thanks for all the congratulations, and I feel really blessed to have run into a fish like that, it still feels like a dream!!

And while im thanking people I want to thank Chris from Sea Sniper for lending me his personal gun to use for the trip, which I shot that yellowtail with from FAR away. Unfortunately the gun is on the bottom in 400 ft of water due to a white shark eating my buoy, pulling the gun out of my hand and taking the whole rig to the bottom, biting through my bungee with its teeth. It was a beautiful gun with a sick squid paint job by amadeo.
