Hi Mike,
Oct - January tend to be better months for yellowfin at the floaters if you can get in a good window. If you chum enough (not too much and not too little) you will be able to keep them at the boat as you drift away from the structure/rig/shrimpboat/etc.
Hope yall get one soon!!! We'll be out there trying to do the same this winter. |

Hey guys, Oct-Jan sounds good for me but I need a thicker wetsuit  . My last spearfishing was in Belize and I wore a 1mil, don't think that will fly this fall. I think the biggest issue will be getting the fish shallow enough and keeping the sharks off them once we stick them. This has potential to be a kick @$$ trip. To my knowledge no one does this outta Texas. Be happy to video for you guys too if you go out before I get my big gun in. Last thing, haven't taken the PFI course but looking at doing it soon. What was your experience? |

There's not a ton of people in Texas doing it but there is a boat or 2 that do it. |

Michelle loved the PFI course. Really made her comfortable hunting. I think there will be several of us ready to try serious bluewater freediving soon. Jake is working on it, and I still am trying to get down past 40', and not make it a one way trip. We are also working up a trip to Panama next year for freedive hunting.

Think I am doing the PFI course next year. I just did a great freediving trip in Belize. Saw some monster fish, shot a slob Mutton Snapper and had a run in with a bull shark. All in all a great trip. I don't know if you thought about a trip there but it is dirt cheap and the reef there is spectacular with diving for all abilities. Looking forward to a freediving tuna trip out of Texas, that would be money.
